WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE IN GEORGIA?
To vote in Georgia, you must be:

  • a citizen of the United States.
  • at least 18 years old by Nov. 8, 2016, (and at least 17 years and 6 months old when you register).
  • a resident of Georgia and of the county or city where you plan to vote.

HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE IN GEORGIA?
You can register online, by mail or in person.

ONLINE
I have a Georgia driver’s license or state ID.
If you have a driver’s license or state ID, you can register to vote online.

DEADLINE: Oct. 11, 2016.

BY MAIL
I don’t have a Georgia driver’s license or state ID.
If you do NOT have a driver’s license or state ID, you can register by mail.

Fill out a voter registration application online, print it, sign it and mail it to your county board of registrar’s office.

If you are a first-time voter, you will need to include a copy of your ID with your registration application OR show it when you vote. Find a list of documents you can use to register here.

DEADLINE: Must be postmarked by Oct. 11, 2016.

IN PERSON
You can register to vote in person at your county board of registrar’s office. Find your county registrar’s office. You can also register in person at the DMV.

DEADLINE: Oct. 11, 2016.

UPDATE YOUR REGISTRATION

HAVE YOU MOVED SINCE YOU LAST VOTED?
If you have moved or changed your name, don’t forget to update your voter registration with your new information.

If you have a driver’s license or state ID, you can update your registration information online.
Deadline is Oct. 11, 2016.

If you do NOT have a driver’s license or state ID, you can fill in the voter registration application. You will be directed to print, sign and send the application to your county board of registrar’s office.

The deadline to update your registration by mail is Oct. 11, 2016. The updated form must be postmarked by Oct. 11, 2016.

LIST OF DOCUMENTS FOR VOTER REGISTRATION AND VOTING

This is a list of documents you can show for voter registration and voting.  

For Registration:
If you registered by mail for the first time in Georgia and did not include your ID with the application, you can use these documents if they include your name and address:

  • A copy of a current utility bill;
  • A bank statement;
  • A government check;
  • A paycheck; or
  • Another government document for one time only.

For Voting:
You must show ID before voting, such as one of these types of ID:

  • A Georgia driver's license or state ID;
  • A valid ID card issued by any other state or the U.S. government that contains your photograph;
  • A valid U.S. passport;
  • A valid employee ID with your photograph issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. government, any state, county, municipality, board or authority;
  • A valid U.S. military identification card with a photograph; or
  • A valid tribal identification card with photograph.

If you don’t have these types of ID, you can cast a provisional ballot that will be accepted if you show the required ID in three days.

Free Voter ID Card:
If you don’t have one of the types of photo ID above, you can get a FREE ID card at any county registrar's office or department of driver services office free of charge, if you show:

  • A photo ID or approved non-photo ID that includes your full legal name and date of birth;
  • A document showing your date of birth;
  • Evidence you are a registered voter;
  • A document that shows your name and residential address
