On March 25th, Rümeysa Öztürk, a graduate student at Tufts University and a member of labor union SEIU, was snatched by masked federal immigration authorities on a public street. Her arrest is a clear attack on our freedom of speech. Rümeysa’s from Turkey, she had a valid student visa, but was arrested and taken to a detention center in Louisiana. Why? Because she had recently exercised her First Amendment right to free speech by authoring an op-ed in the student newspaper in support of the people of Palestine.
We won’t stand by as the First Amendment is set on fire before our eyes. And we certainly won’t be silent as workers are abducted.
