TPS Available Through October 2, 2026
Mnamo Januari 10, 2025, DHS ilitangaza an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible Venezuelans who currently hold TPS. This extension, effective from April 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, allows approximately 600,000 current TPS holders to keep their TPS status and related work authorization. Individuals currently with TPS for Venezuela will need to re-register for TPS and related work authorization during the re-registration period, which will begin once the Federal Register notice is published and run through September 10, 2025.

Extension of TPS for Venezuela
TPS Extension Available Through September 10, 2025
On September 20, 2023, DHS ilitangaza an extension and an expansion of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela. TPS will be available for an additional 18 months to current Venezuelan TPS holders through September 10, 2025.
Also, DHS expanded TPS to include Venezuelans who have lived in the U.S. as of July 31, 2023. TPS provides temporary immigration status, protection from deportation, and permission to work.
Current Venezuelan TPS holders (who have lived in the U.S. since March 8, 2021) can apply for an extension of TPS and work authorization.
On October 3, 2023, DHS posted a Federal Register notice with information about the extension of TPS for Venezuela and the expansion of the program to include Venezuelans in the U.S. as of July 31, 2023.
Venezuelans who currently have TPS must apply for an extension by filing a TPS application (Fomu ya I-821) between January 10, 2024, and March 10, 2024.
By filing for an extension of TPS during the 60-day application period, between January 10, 2024, and March 10, 2024, TPS holders who currently have TPS and work authorization until March 10, 2024, will receive an automatic extension of work permission until March 10, 2025.

TPS is now available for 18 months until April 2, 2025, for first-time applicants who have lived in the U.S. since July 31, 2023.
Also, TPS will be available for an additional 18 months to current Venezuelan TPS holders through September 10, 2025.
TPS provides temporary immigration status, protection from deportation, and permission to work.
Venezuelans who have lived in the U.S. since July 31, 2023, are now eligible to apply for TPS and work authorization for the first time.
On October 3, 2023, DHS posted a Taarifa ya Usajili wa Shirikisho with information about the extension of TPS for Venezuela and the expansion of the program to include Venezuelans in the U.S. as of July 31, 2023.
Venezuelans who are applying for TPS for the first time must file a TPS application (Fomu ya I-821) between October 3, 2023, and April 2, 2025. To receive a work permit, eligible Venezuelans must apply for employment authorization (Fomu-I-765).
